Tuerk House Assisted Living

Location: Baltimore, MD

Client:  Tuerk House

Services: Architecture and Interior Design

Cost: $20,000,000

Challenge
A tight urban site in a formerly industrialized, underutilized pocket of downtown Baltimore — with an 84-bed assisted living program serving elders with behavioral health and addiction recovery needs requiring a residential, homelike scale not typically associated with dense city sites.

Outcome
Eight small house households, two per floor across five floors, each a self-contained neighborhood of care rather than a wing off a central corridor. Every household opens onto ample outdoor garden space adjacent to the activity room, alongside dedicated PT, OT, and hydrotherapy suites — bringing a residential model of care, and genuine access to nature, to a site that offered neither by default.
