AIA MD Honors RM Sovich Architecture

for Two Projects

The Maryland State Component of the American Institute of Architects (AIA Maryland) has presented awards to two projects designed by Baltimore-based architectural firm RM Sovich Architecture. A Citation Award for Excellence in Design was given for the Boston Street Animal Hospital. The jury also presented an Honor Award for Excellence in Design for the SEGUE House, an eco-friendly, affordable, personal dwelling in the Unbuilt category.

The Boston Street Animal Hospital, (far left) completed in October 2009 is located on Boston Street in Canton. The jury said the project "skillfully inserts itself in the context of an existing building, dresses the street in a very thoughtful manner and opens up the interior to create a light-filled space that's great from the street as well as from the interior of the building."

With a footprint of 20 feet by 10 feet, the SEGUE House, (near left) addresses the idea of minimal housing; it takes up roughly the area of a parking space. The design utilizes green design strategies, including a green roof, environmental materials, energy efficient heating and cooling systems and prefabricated components.
